Children suffering from cancer are being offered a chance to spend the day in a sporty Porsche. Organisers of the Fun Day Out have already been promised 100 cars from across Scotland for the May 14 event at Carberry Tower estate in East Lothian. However they are still looking for a further 50 families to take part in the Childen s car rally. Organiser Ferdie Le Fevre said: This is not a fundraising event, it is a day for children to experience something special, while giving their families some respite. PORSCHE drivers from all over Scotland formed a 70-car convoy yesterday to give sick children a fun day out.
The owners met at Carberry Tower estate in East Lothian and were escorted by police to Haddington and back, to the sound of horns and clapping children.
The event was organised by student Ferdie Le Fevre and his wife Clare Le Fevre. Ferdie had to do this as part of his Event Management HND.
Ferdie said: "Clare and I have spent seven months organising the event and we are delighted with the way things have gone. The happy smiling faces that you see all around have made this worthwile.
"We're definitely going to make this an annual event. It's great for the children and brings the local community together."
The children enjoyed free food, drink and ice-cream, while entertainers The Happy Gang and band The Fundamentals entertained them in the 30-acre estate.
Debbie Campbell, 13, from Edinburgh, said: "It was great to get a ride in the Porsche. The driver let me honk his horn and there were people clapping us all the way to Haddington. I am Looking forward to my ice-cream."
Alan Seadon, regional organiser of the Porsche Club in East Scotland, said that the event could help to change peoples' idea of a typical Porsche owner.
Alan said; "Fun days like this, prove that Porsche drivers are not all rich selfish yuppies, only interested in themselves. The response from owners has been great and we'd like to do more of this type of day.

Parading Porsches on a Fun Day Out. On Sunday May 8th, 70 Porsche drivers will take 70 children with cancer / leukaemia on a drive as part of the Fun Day Out to be held in the East Lothian area.
The Fun Day Out event has been organized by Ferdie Le Fèvre of Edinburgh as part of his Events Management course at Jewell and Esk Valley College and will be held at Carberry Tower in Musselburgh.
In order to combine his interest in doing something for charity and his ambition to work as an Events Co-ordinator, Ferdie, with help from some of his fellow students including Yvonne Schmitt and other friends, has worked tirelessly for the last 4 months to make this day happen. Not only has he recruited willing Porsche drivers and marshals to help out on the day itself, but he and his team have also secured enough funding to make this day happen, via generous donations.
As well as the Porsche tour, there will be food and drink, live music, children’s entertainers, bouncy castles and much more, to give both the kids and their parents some respite from the stress and upset cancer and leukaemia cause for all affected families.
For anyone in the Musselburgh area on the day, look out for a parade of gleaming Porsches on the road from about 12.30pm. The cars will travel on the costal route passing Wallyford, Gullane, Drem, and Haddington and ultimately return to Carberry Tower. This route will encompass both sea views and country roads – allowing the children to experience all the thrills of being in a sports car, and what’s more, the Police will be on hand to give that extra special escort for the tour.
The lucky children who will be riding in the parade have all been secured through CCLASP (Children with Cancer and Leukaemia Advice and Support for Parents, Registered Charity No. SCO26520) and will be aged from 6 to 19 years old. All of them are looking forward to the event with anticipation.
The drivers too, are really relishing being involved in such an event, Alan Seadon Chairman of the Scottish arm of Porsche Club GB says “I and everyone I know are really pleased to be associated with this hardworking team and I am sure all involved will have a unique and fun experience”.
For more information on the event and for post-event pictures, visit the Fun Day Out website at www.fundayout.org. This event will be the first of it’s kind in the U.K. and Ferdie plans on making it an annual treat in the Edinburgh area, so if you would like to become involved in next year’s event, then e-mail the team at contact@fundayout.org.
