Important News for 2007!
Due to personal circumstances, The Fun Day Out Event will not run in 2007. We are truly sorry to disappoint anyone who was looking forward to it this year, but as recent first-time parents Ferdie and Clare are unable to provide the level of commitment (approx 20 hours per week) necessary to make this event happen. In addition, several of the management team too have other commitments this year and as such a decision has been made not to go ahead with Fun Day Out 2007.
If you wish to stay informed regarding future developments of the Fun Day Out, please sign up via the website and we will let you know what the plans are for 2008.
What is Fun Day Out?
A day out in Southern Scotland, for children (and their immediate families) with a life threatening ilness. Our most important aim of the day is to enable the attendees to enjoy themselves in an exciting and safe environment and provide fun and entertainment for all. One of the highlights of the day is a procession of Porsche cars around the East Lothian area. The drivers of these cars each take one sick child with them and the tour starts and ends at an outdoor venue on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
After the parade, on arrival back at the departure point, there is entertainment for all, including a playground for the younger guest, games, a live band, and plenty of food and drink.
The day lasts from approximately 11:00am in the morning till 5:00pm in the afternoon and culminates in an awards ceremony.
Why Organise Such a Day?
Hopefully the reasons for holding such a day are obvious. All children want to have fun, but those who have suffered at the hands of a life treatening illness have probably had less chance to do so.
As a result the Fun Day Out team aim to provide them with the chance to make up for some of this lost time, by making it easy for them to enjoy themselves at a fully organised and catered for event.
Who is Doing all of This?
The 2006 Fun Day Out team consists of:
- Ferdie Le Fevre
- Clare Le Fevre
- Jonathan Gilbert
- John Rushbrook
- Tara Paterson
- Kirsty Grant
This team are the lead organisers of the FDO event. Each year they offer children who have suffered as a result of a cancer related illness, the chance to take part in the event.
The event is supported by Porsche Club GB, and The Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club (TIPEC). All the Porsche drivers who take part (both as club members and individuals) donate their time to help provide a sick child with a fun day to remember.
The event is funded solely from donations and as such the generosity of both individuals and companies is a vital component to making the Fun Day Out happen.
